Biography
The Brussels born Barbara De Pauw grew up in an artistic family, with both mother and grandmother being photographers. She naturally became passionate about art, and later on graduated at the Art Academy of Brussels. After working as an international art advisor, she started to create her own contemporary art and photography.
Barbara De Pauw is most inspired by her own artistic universe, in which she reflects both the tangible and the intangible. The things that influenced her in life, made her built her personal signature which she translated into art. Her work represents immersive energies and translates moments into a series of photographs that are both objective and subjective. The end results are her way of experimenting with the poetics of the images.
Artistic universe
The main focus of Barbara De Pauw’s work is her own imagination. She blurs the boundaries between objective and subjective photography, which translates to the vibrant core in her artistic work. Her work shows a palette of techniques while trying to answer questions of femininity, nature’s energy and abstraction by exploring contemporary art with curiosity. Barbara De Pauw is most inspired by artists such as Otto Steinert and Wolfgang Tillmans, with whom she shares the interest to experiment with the poetics of the image. Her work is part of the current movement in photography.
